According to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in the state's eastern region have reported getting more defectors.
The APC leader in the state and special assistant to senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) for media, Bashar Abubakar, disclosed this.
In the most recent defections, according to Abubakar, hundreds of supporters of the PDP, Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) from the Gwadabawa, Illela, and Goronyo Local Government Areas switched allegiances to the APC.
Among the defectors are former council members and other key figures from the eastern part of the state. Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, the party's candidate for governor, and Alhaji Idris Gobir, his running mate, welcomed them all in their local governments, he said.
Abubakar said that the development has continued to give the party more cause for optimism ahead of the state's next elections in 2023.
Prior to the formation of the APC, Muhammad Gumburawa, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate for governor in the state of Sokoto, destroyed the PRP.
