The Chief Whip of the House of Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has claimed that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, made a deal with them that he would serve for only one tenure, then hand over to the former military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
He said that after getting into office, Obasanjo reneged on that promise, and even went ahead to plot going for a third term in office. He disclosed this in a video which was shared by the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on his verified Twitter handle.
He said - "He's supposed to be one-term President. That's the promise he made to us in Otta. There was a deal made, it's not a lie, it's the truth, I was there. He said he would do one tenure, then Babangida would continue. This was a deal made, Babangida is alive, Obasanjo is alive. Let any of them contradict it and we'll go to NTA and talk about it."
Speaking further, Orji Kalu said that he confronted Babangida several times about the promise Obasanjo made, and added that it was the reason Babangida wanted to fight Obasanjo in 2003.
