A Retired Judge of FCT High Court, Justice Muda Balami has called for the inclusion of skills and vocational training in school curriculum towards combating unemployment in the country.
Justice Balami made the call during the 2nd Annual Interhouse Sports Competition of Junior Secondary School, Sabon - Gari, Gwagwalada Abuja.
Justice Balami who expressed concern over the rate of unemployment in the country said skills acquisition remain the best way of making students employers of labour after graduation.
He stressed the need for Governent at all levels to always embark on programmes that would empower Nigerian youths towards contributing to national economic development.
While commending the School for organising the Interhouse Sports Competition, Justice Balami advised students to always engage in positive ventures and be good ambassadors of their families.
In a message, the Chairman of FCT Universal Education Board, UBEB, Dr Hassan Sule promised the Board's continuous support to the school to ensure educational development of the area.
Dr. Sule who described education as the bedrock of development also reiterated the commitment of the Board towards repositioning basic education in the FCT.
He therefore advised students of the school to see sporting activities as one of the ways of building a mentally fit career.
On her part, a Director of Education in the FCT, Mrs Florence Okonkwo called for more measures that would address out of school children in the country.
Mrs Florence Okonkwo who is also the Principal of Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada Abuja advised parents to always give priority to the educational development of their children to reduce the level of illiteracy nationwide.
Earlier, the Principal of Junior Secondary School, Sabon - Gari in Gwagwalada Abuja, Mr David Babatunde appealed for be support from individual, corporate bodies and organizations to ensure the progress of the school.
Mr Babatunde David said the school had put in place necessary modalities to fast track the development of education sector in the area.
He advised parents, guardian and caregiver to be committed to the educational development of their children.
At the end of the Interhouse competition, Blue House came first, Red House second, Yellow House, third while Green House came fourth in the competition.which was attended by about 20 primary Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in the FCT
Prizes, trophy, gifts were presented to students, staff, Principals and Head Teachers who participated in the Interhouse so competition
