Ministerial Appointment: Onuchukwu, APC National Chairman's Campaign DG Makes List

Among women and young people that will constitute over 50 per cent of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu's cabinet, Hon. Lawrence Onuchukwu, the Director General of the Campaign Organisation of the  National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Senator Abdullahi Adamu during his contest for the party's national Chairman last year has made the list of those to be appointed as Ministers after inauguration of new government next month.  Abuja Daily Mail has exclusively gathered.

Credible sources told this online newspaper that President-elect  who had earlier promised to include young people in his cabinet has concluded plan to fulfil his promise and  Onuchukwu has been listed as one of those competent and experienced young men to be offered ministerial job.

Onuchukwu, a vibrant and highly intelligent young man that has passion for the less privileged was the immediate past Vice Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC as well as a grassroots political leader in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja. He is the political leader of APC Southeast forum in FCT.

As a strategic political planner and mobiliser, during his tenure as AMAC Vice Chairman, he moved round the country, particularly the 774 Local Government Areas to form the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria and subsequently became its pioneer national President.  It is on record that during his time as the national leader of the association, he mobilised it to demand for the much needed local government autonomy and other things that were so beneficial to the grassroots people.

It will be recalled that Tinubu had said that young people, especially women, would be featured prominently in his cabinet.  In his words: "I shall assemble  competent men and women, young people from across Nigeria to build a safer, more prosperous and just Nigeria."

In his reaction, Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide, an APC Chieftain in Abuja and Secretary of FCT Non-Natives Forum said if Onuchukwu is finally assigned ministerial appointment, it means the President-elect has broken record in the appointment of FCT representative in the Federal Executive Council, FEC for the first time

He said since the creation of FCT in 1976, not even native or non-native residents have ever been given ministerial appointment.

He said with Onuchukwu, who has worked tremendously with both natives and non-natives for the progress of the territory, his appointment would be a great relief for the people.

Contacted to speak on this, Onuchukwu denied knowledge about his name listed by the President-elect for ministerial appointment.  He said, he "knows nothing" about his name listed for ministerial appointment, as he has not lobby for such appointment let alone to know that President-elect Tinubu has considered him for the ministerial I position.

He said people should not simply conclude that his visits to some political leaders of the party meant that he was going about lobbying for the position, rather he visited them as part of the euphoria of the victory for the party.
