CBN Raises Interest Rate To 16.5% To Control Inflation

 The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday raised its benchmark lending rate to 16.5 per cent in a sustained push to control inflation and ease pressure on the naira. Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), made this known at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja. The CBN said previous increases were beginning to yield results and there was need to keep tightening. It tightened by 100 basis points. Mr Emefiele announced that the committee also retained the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 32.5 percent, and voted to retain the asymmetric corridor at +100 and -700 basis points around the MPR. The liquidity ratio was retained at 30 per cent. Cash reserves ratio is the share of a bank’s total customer deposit that must be kept with the central bank in the form of liquid cash, while bank’s liquidity ratio is the proportion of deposits and other assets they must maintain to be able to meet short-term obligations. BREAKING!: Court Orders INEC To Resume Voter's Registration

 A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately resume the Continuous Voters Registration until 90 days before the 2023 general elections. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the judgment, also directed INEC to ensure that eligible Nigerians were not deprived the opportunity to have their voter card for the forthcoming poll. Justice Ekwo held that it was the constitutional responsibility of the electoral umpire to make adequate provision for the exercise in accordance with the Nigerian laws. “The case of the plaintiffs succeeds on merit,” the judge declared. Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said the emergence of Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, is a plus to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. Amaechi Speaks on Purchase Of His Law Certificate

Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, says he worked hard to obtain his law certificate at Baze University, and didn’t buy it with money as some people claim.
