The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice president Kashim Shettima over their victory at the Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal (PEPT). A Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, Imo State has affirmed Chief Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph as the Labour Party, LP Gubernatorial Candidate in 2023 Governorship Election in the State. Delivering judgement in the case in Owerri, Imo State, Justice B. O Quadri said the primary election that produced Chief Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph on the 16th of April, 2023 was valid after considering the evidence before him. According to him, the primary election for the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election for the LP in Imo State was not held on the 15th of April, 2023 as claimed by the Plaintiff, Basil Maduka. He ruled that the Plaintiff was never an aspirant in the nomination process as he never participated in the Party's primary election.  President Bola Tinubu has signed the Students Loans Bill into Law, which was part of his campaigns promises. The law would allow indigent students in tertiary institutions to access a Federal Government loan for the duration of their studies. Mr Dele Alake, a presidential spokesman, disclosed this on Monday at the end of the signing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Alake said the bill would boost the educational  pursuit of the youths across the country, adding that to enjoy the facility,  students must show evidence of being indigent. He said that a committee drawn from all the relevant educational stakeholders would be set up to handle the process of an efficient disbursement of the loans. Alake said that a percentage of the revenue of the Federation would be used to finance the new initiative.  The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, did not win enough votes to make him president, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate  Atiku Abubakar said yesterday. The duo were contenders in last Saturday’s presidential election that was won by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Obi got 6, 101,533 from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). But, the biggest of the votes – 1,960,589 – were secured in the Southeast states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, said on Thursday that he believed his former ally-turned-opponent, Peter Obi, could not have won Saturday’s presidential election. Atiku said Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, could not have got the constitutionally-required spread needed to be declared president. Apart from winning the majority votes, a candidate is also expected to get 25 per cent of votes in at least 25 states to be declared the winner of the presidential election. In his speech, Atiku acknowledged that Obi’s candidacy denied PDP votes from its traditional strongholds in the South-east and South-south regions but said victory in those regions could not sufficient for Mr Obi to be declared president.  The Minister of Works and Housing, and the former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola have reacted after President Muhammadu Buhari defied the Supreme Court order on allowing the old notes to be legal tender for the next six months.  With barely eleven days to the general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy may hinder the Commission’s ability to conduct the election.  INEC FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Yahaya Bello, made this known at the North-Central Stakeholders Roundtable on the 2023 General Elections which was organized by the the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) in Abuja, yesterday.   “As we are seated here, 99 percent of us are affected by the cashless policy. INEC is also affected. We have 2,822,000 polling units. Before the election day, we are going to employ the services of vehicle providers. We have had a lot of meetings with National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). We have also brought in Maritime Workers Union. The Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara State governments have filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government before the Supreme Court, seeking a restraining order to halt the full implementation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s naira redesign policy. The lawsuit follows the chaos and hardship that Nigerians go through in efforts to meet the deadline for the new naira exchange. In a motion ex-parte filed on their behalf by their lawyer, AbdulHakeem Uthman Mustapha (SAN), the Northern States urged the Supreme Court to give them an interim injunction stopping the Nigerian Government either by itself or acting through the CBN, commercial banks or its agents from executing its plan of ending the timeframe within which the now older currencies of 200, 500 and 1000 denomination will cease to be legal tenders.  The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against excessive fasting, saying it affects the kidney. Director-general of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who gave the warning at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, said “We are a very religious country, Muslims and Christians, we fast a lot, and it is part of the kidney problem. She said the body is supposed to have homeostasis balance, meaning the water level in your body must be enough to make the organs to function. “Some people will fast for 10, 20 days without drinking a lot of water. The kidney is being punished. “Now, if you put chemicals in it, it triples in an exponential manner, with damage to the kidneys. This is because the kidney does not have enough water to dilute and filter  Adeyeye added. She, therefore, urged Nigerians to fast with “common sense” and to always buy medications from pharmacies against buying from hawkers and corner shops.
